Vortrag: Ernährungarmut und lokale Märkte (Berlin)
Food Poverty is a major cause of hunger and malnutrition around the globe. 2 out of 5 people cannot afford a healthy diet. This affects low-income countries the most but also in middle- and high-income countries like Brazil or Germany many people are excluded. One reason is the instability and malfunctioning of food systems, including markets. Well-functioning markets play a pivotal role in a functioning food system, providing food and income, also to lower income households.
In this event, we want to showcase different aspects of markets that prioritize the right to food and support agroecology. Our starting point is the Misereor study “Armutslücke Welternährung” and the civil society perspectives on markets in it. This will be followed by inputs from civil society, science, and business, covering Brazil, Cambodia, and Germany, before starting into a discussion.
Speakers:
Bruno Prado (AS-PTA, Brazil), Project Coordinator
Lilian Beck (University of Hohenheim), Research Associate
